Horseshoe Sanitation Project

This project involved the conversion of onsite sanitation for households into sanitation. ZIYANDA Consulting provided all civil engineering consulting input for the conversion. This included the following:

• Assessments of existing sewage treatment infrastructure (condition and capacity), including VIP toilet structures, downstream outfall sewers;
• Design and management of construction of infrastructure to achieve conversion.
  • 17km x 160 diameter uPVC bulk sewer mains
  • 4 km x 200mm diameter uPVC bulk sewer mains
  • 5km x 250mm diameter uPVC
  • 5km x 160mm diameter reticulation line
  • 3 No. pumpstation buildings equipped with electro-mechanical equipment
  • 60 toilet super-structures Plumbing fixtures and piping from connection point, including waste closets etc for 1,462 households

Beneficiaries: The current population of the Horseshoe and Mphela areas combined is estimated at 6,007 people
